How Leon, A Digital Native, Went From Reading Newspaper Articles to Reading on the Internet

(Little Leon with his grandma)

As kids, most of us weren't a fan of the news, it's something our parents and grandparents would force us to watch because we only had one TV in the house. But little Leon was different, unlike the rest of us; he read the news, so imagine that! Yes, the kid you're seeing right above you! That little kid! Reading a newspaper! As someone who grew up just wanting to watch cartoons and play, little Leon was reading like a little old man, which is cute if you think about it, a little kid reading a newspaper.

"I grew up surrounded by newspapers. My grandmother was a journalist and my grandfather was very political; they also had a small newspaper business. Anyway, back then I used to read newspapers as something to do till I got into high school.

- Napoleon Juan B. Clemente III

This quote from Leon made me realize how the environment you grew up in can affect how you approach the news. Unlike Leon, both my parents and most of my extended family were apolitical, the only exception was my grandpa from my mom's side of the family. So we can infer that because of an environment like that, I preferred to watch cartoons instead of the news up until now. Or maybe I just inherently don't want to watch the news, but that's something we can talk about next time!

Transitioning Into Using Social Media News Outlets

(Leon now, this time with a turtle)

" Nowadays, I get my news from the internet; mainly Twitter. Digital media made things easier for me to consume, it's way more efficient now compared to back then which is the main reason why I switched to Twitter-based news. Of course, I only trust credible news sources."

- Napoleon Juan B. Clemente III

According to Leon, he started relying on social media apps, which is mainly Twitter, for his news right when he entered high school. There was really no significant reason for this transition other than the fact that it was more convenient for him to get his news from trustworthy and verified news outlets operating on those social media platforms. And with the constant evolution of the smartphone, it's way easier now to stay updated and informed with the news.
